1.      History and use

2.      Description of the plant

 

It is a tree 8 to 10 meters high with a cylindrical straight bole, the leaves are imparipinnate, the flowers are in spikes grouped at the ends of the branches and the fruits are pale yellow drupes.

A decoction or maceration of the leaves causes a decrease in glycemia in rats by the oral or intraperitoneal route.Sclerocarya birrea has an action on the regulating system of blood glucose and a proper peripheral activity on the uptake of glucose by the organism, especially by muscle tissue.The action could be due to flavonoids and tannins.The toxicity is very low.

 

4.      Uses
